Covid-19 (Dec 11): 1,810 new infections, cumulative cases breach 80k mark

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,810 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths. 

The Klang Valley region recorded the most cases with 53.2 percent followed by Sabah (29.4 percent) and Pahang (5.3 percent).

Cumulatively, the number of Covid-19 cases in the country has reached 80,309. For context, the total number of Covid-19 cases in China currently stands at 86,688.


Leading indicators:

  • Patients in ICU: 123 ↓ (1 less than the previous day)
  • Intubated patients: 63 ↑ (3 more than the previous day)
  • Deaths: 6

While the vast majority of new cases in the Klang Valley were from known clusters or origins, it should be noted that 160 of these infections, or 16.6 percent, were classified as "lain-lain saringan" (other screenings). 

This classification is an umbrella term for screenings on people with symptoms, pre-surgery screening, workplace screenings and pre-departure screenings, among others.

In Selangor, a new cluster known as Sungai Putus accounted for 369 new cases. This cluster involved mostly foreigners working at a factory in the Klang district, possibly located in Jalan Sungai Putus, which is sandwiched between Bandar Bukit Raja and Klang town. 

Of the six deaths reported, five were in Sabah. The cumulative Covid-19 death toll for Sabah has reached 233 or 57.96 percent of the national total (402).

Details of the victims - and Malaysians with comorbidity - are as follows:

Patient 42,285 - male, 62, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. 

Patient 50,0048 - male, 65, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Patient 52,948 - male, 81, passed away at the Tawau Hospital.

Patient 58,947 - female, 60, passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. 

Patient 70,078 - female, 78, passed away at the Penang Hospital. 

Patient 76,355 - female, 63, dead on arrival at the Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan.
