Five new clusters detected in Sabah, Selangor, KL and Terengganu

PETALING JAYA: Five new Covid-19 clusters were detected in the past 24 hours, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said in his daily update on the pandemic that the clusters were Teduh, Menara, Keladi, Sentral and Bah Bemban.


"Teduh involves the district of Lahad Datu, Sabah, and as of Oct 17, there are 11 positive cases and 524 individuals waiting for their results.

"Menara involves the districts of Gombak, Petaling, Klang, Sepang and Hulu Langat in Selangor, as well as Lembah Pantai and Cheras in Kuala Lumpur, and Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak," he said.

"As of today (Oct 17), 33 people (in the Menara cluster) have been identified as positive and 33 more were found to be negative, while 144 are awaiting their results.

"The Keladi cluster involves the Klang district in Selangor. Up till Oct 17,107 individuals have been screened and 26 were found to be positive and 74 negative.

"Seven more are waiting for their results.

"In the Sentral cluster, which was identified in Kepong, Cheras and Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, 135 individuals were screened and five were found to be positive, 122 negative and eight more are waiting for their results.

"The Bah Bemban cluster involves the district of Dungun, Terengganu, and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. As of Oct 17,222 individuals have been screened and 12 were found to be positive, while 210 were found to be negative," said Dr Noor Hisham.

The announcement of the new clusters came on a day that has seen the number of Covid-19 cases hit a high of 869 in the past 24 hours.
