
PETALING JAYA: One new Covid-19 cluster has been reported in the country, involving cases in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
The Health director general said the Kencana cluster included cases in Hulu Langat, Petaling, Klang and Gombak in Selangor; Cheras in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Johor Bahru, Batu Pahat and Pontian in Johor.
Up till Wednesday (Oct 14), a total of 17 positive cases havd been detected in this cluster, he said in his daily press briefing on Wednesday (Oct 14).
A total of 23 individuals in the cluster have been screened, with four people testing negative and another two still awaiting their results.
The index case of the cluster was discovered through the screening of an individual who displayed symptoms of the disease. Following this, the individual’s close contacts were screened with another 16 cases detected.
Dr Noor Hisham said there had been a rise in the number of Covid-19 clusters in the country.
He said because of the rise in the number of cases, with more districts in Peninsular Malaysia becoming yellow and red zones.
As of Wednesday, a total of 52 districts had been classified as yellow zones with 19 districts classified as red.
He said the ministry was carrying out active case detection, surveillance activities at its sentinel clinics and hospitals, disinfection activities, as well as more testing activities.
